don’t walk away

the holidays are wrapping up and it’s time to get to work. we’ve been writing and writing and rehearsing and i’m hoping that we’ll be able to start recording the follow-up to ghost types in the coming months.

meanwhile I’ve been perusing the back catalog and re-discovered an old favorite — 60s baroque pop outfit the left banke. a bit of a two-hit wonder, these guys recorded some fantastic songs, and a friend and i were remarking today that ‘walk away renee’ may be one of the greatest singles ever. the left banke were big on the harpsichord, an instrument that i have tried to incorporate into the b+p repetoire to much ridicule. anyhow, their retrospective record ‘there’s gonna be a storm’ is highly recommended.

here’s their song ‘i haven’t got the nerve’ on imeem.

I Havent Got The Nerve - The Left Banke

it was sampled by lou barlow in the folk implosion song ‘natural one’.

fired up

probably our last show for the year, so we can have some time to work on new songs:

the delancey — saturday, december 6th — midnight — w/ the loom, spanish prisoners, naked hearts

and for the b+p archivists out there, three different demos of one of our favorites from ghost types, the great fire:

  • bridges and powerlines - the great fire live demo #1 [mp3]
  • bridges and powerlines - the great fire live demo #2 [mp3]
  • bridges and powerlines - the great fire home studio demo #3 [mp3]
