i grew up in north carolina, and in my teen years, my only reference point regarding staten island was the wu tang clan. my subsequent travels to the southern-most borough have revealed a city of great diversity, standing in contrast to the rough and tumble descriptors of ‘38 chambers’ or its sequels. bridges and powerlines had the pleasure of playing a show in SI back in the winter, and it was tremendous fun.

i mention all of this, because our friend pat from poptartssucktoasted was interviewed today in gothamist, and we are always very excited to hear about his efforts to grow the indie rock scene in SI. the ’scenes’ in the outer boroughs are very important for new/developing bands, we’ve always been fond of playing in queens at the creek and the cave (RIP unfortunately) and the folks like pat (and brandon in queens) are definitely my personal heroes. there is no money in it for these grass roots promoters, they do it for a love of the music…
